Recion is exhibiting at Nordic Hydrogen Week in Oulu, Finland, bringing together innovators, industry leaders, investors and policymakers to explore the future of the hydrogen economy. We’d love to connect, share insights, and talk about how Recion contributes to the transition to clean energy. Come visit us at Stand 23!
Piping solutions supporting the energy transition, such as hydrogen, are becoming increasingly relevant across Europe. At Recion, we see this as a natural development and an opportunity to further strengthen our expertise in demanding piping systems.
One of our designers, Markus Kieksi, recently completed his thesis – The Requirements, Design, and Hydrogen Permeability Assessment of Hydrogen Piping – providing new insights into standards, material behavior, and safety requirements.
Hi Markus! Can you summarize the focus of your thesis?
My thesis examined current industry standards and guidelines for hydrogen pipelines, with a focus on how they impact material selection and pipeline design. The work also included pipeline calculations based on that data. The result is a comprehensive databook that supports future hydrogen projects at Recion.
Why is this important knowledge from a design perspective?
For designers, a deep understanding of hydrogen’s technical limitations and safety requirements is essential. This ensures that future hydrogen piping systems can be designed and delivered safely and efficiently.
How does your research strengthen Recion’s capabilities in hydrogen piping?
Interest in the hydrogen economy is growing, and up-to-date expertise is crucial. With strengthened knowledge of current standards and design requirements, Recion is now even better prepared to take on upcoming hydrogen pipeline projects. Building on our experience in gas and nuclear projects, this is a natural next step.
